Financial Benefits of Carbon Farming: Analysis for Farms

Abstract. Introduction. Carbon farming as an approach to sustainable agricultural development requires a detailed analysis of the financial benefits to farms, taking into account the costs of implementing new technologies as well as potential benefits such as improved soil fertility and income from the sale of carbon credits.

Purpose. The issue of implementation of carbon farming and its economic benefits is being actively researched both in Ukraine and abroad, particularly in the context of high efficiency of these technologies and associated barriers, such as significant costs of adaptation, certification and monitoring, which requires an integrated approach taking into account economic, environmental and social factors.

Results. The article examines the prospects for the implementation of carbon farming in the Mykolaiv Oblast, focusing on financial and economic aspects. It is found that the use of carbon technologies can not only contribute to reducing resource costs and improving soil productivity, but also provide additional income through participation in international carbon credit programs. At the same time, the importance of government support, access to information and financial resources to enable farmers to adapt to new conditions is emphasized. It is also noted that cooperation with international organizations can become an important source of funding for implementing soil restoration measures and adapting to climate change.

While carbon farming has significant potential for environmental conservation and economic sustainability, it also poses risks, such as high initial costs and the need for certification. Success depends on effective management of financial and technical challenges, as well as support from governments and international organizations.

Conclusions. Carbon farming has significant potential for sustainable agricultural development in Ukraine, contributing to increased soil fertility and carbon sequestration through the sale of carbon credits. However, financial, technical and organizational barriers need to be overcome for widespread adoption of these technologies, including high costs of certification and monitoring.
