Economic Security of Tourism and Hospitality Enterprises in the Context of Global Challenges

Abstract. Introduction. The article examines the theoretical foundations and practical mechanisms for ensuring the economic security of tourism and hotel enterprises under martial law conditions. In the context of ongoing military conflict, the tourism sector faces unprecedented challenges that threaten its stability, profitability, and long-term viability. The concept of economic security is analyzed through a multidimensional lens, encompassing financial, investment, personnel, informational, legal, and social components. These elements form the structural basis for assessing the resilience of enterprises in crisis environments. Particular attention is paid to the transformation of risk management strategies, which have shifted from preventive models to adaptive and reactive approaches due to the volatility of external threats. The study emphasizes the need for a systemic understanding of economic security as a dynamic and integrative category, especially in wartime conditions.

Purpose. The purpose of the study is to identify and systematize the key threats to economic security in the tourism and hospitality industry during martial law, and to explore the structural components that determine the sector’s ability to withstand external shocks. The research aims to develop practical recommendations for enhancing the resilience of enterprises by analyzing both theoretical models and real-world practices. It seeks to bridge the gap between academic understanding and operational decision-making, offering tools for strategic planning and crisis response. The study also intends to highlight the role of innovation, digitalization, and infrastructure autonomy as critical factors in maintaining business continuity and competitiveness under conditions of uncertainty and risk.

Results. The study identifies a range of destabilizing factors affecting tourism and hotel enterprises, including reduced demand, logistical disruptions, personnel displacement, and legal ambiguities. Based on the analysis of Ukrainian hotel enterprises, the paper presents successful adaptation strategies such as: Implementation of autonomous infrastructure (e.g., energy independence, water supply systems); Integration of digital services and contactless technologies; Strategic reorientation towards domestic tourism and long-term stays.

These measures have enabled businesses to maintain operations, attract new customer segments, and reinforce their economic stability. The results demonstrate that proactive adaptation and flexible management are key to surviving and evolving in wartime conditions.

Conclusions. The article concludes with a set of practical recommendations aimed at strengthening the economic security of tourism and hotel enterprises. These include the development of internal risk management protocols, investment in digital transformation, diversification of services, and enhanced cooperation with local authorities and communities. The findings underscore the importance of strategic foresight, innovation, and institutional support in building sustainable business models. In the long-term perspective, economic security must be viewed not only as protection from threats but as a proactive framework for growth, resilience, and value creation in the face of adversity.
