Mediation competencies of a modern manager
Abstract. Introduction. Mediation skills have become an integral part of effective management of organizational and social processes. The ability to resolve conflicts constructively directly affects team productivity and business process stability. In today’s professional environment, managers must possess active listening, emotional regulation, negotiation, and mutual understanding-building skills. These skills reduce the risk of escalating disputes and create a favorable atmosphere for cooperation, team culture development, and achieving the organization’s strategic goals.
Purpose. This article aims to describe and identify important mediation competencies of modern managers.
Results. This article examines the phenomenon of mediation, emphasizing the essence and methods of developing a manager’s mediation competencies as a modern tool for conflict resolution. The study’s results show that the mediation process in management practice involves several consecutive stages: identifying the subject of the conflict, reaching an agreement between the parties, establishing conditions for safe communication, determining the participants’ real interests, and creating a mutually acceptable agreement. The strategic advantages of mediation include saving time and resources, maintaining long-term business relationships, increasing employee engagement, and fostering a culture of partnership within the organization. Particular attention is paid to distinguishing between different types of mediation in management. The study summarizes the views of Ukrainian and foreign scholars who unanimously emphasize the importance of integrating mediation skills into professional management education and consider them a tool for improving management effectiveness. A significant part of the article is devoted to analyzing current mediation trends, particularly the development of online mediation and its growing presence in areas previously under the jurisdiction of courts, as well as the growth of specialized forms of mediation. The article discusses the development of mediation in Ukraine, where institutions such as the Ukrainian Academy of Mediation (which develops professional standards and educational activities) and the National Mediation and Reconciliation Service (which focuses on collective labor disputes and social dialogue) play key roles.
Conclusions. Thus, mediation skills are an integral part of the professional profile of a modern manager, as they not only increase management efficiency, but also shape a new model of corporate culture based on dialogue, trust and partnership.
