Environmental Impact Assessment of Agriculture: A Regional Aspect
Abstract. Introduction. In the context of Ukraine’s integration into the world community, the need of the national economy for natural resources is growing, it is important to study the issues of formation, use and reproduction of the natural resource potential of a certain sector, its impact on the environment, as it is an important regional feature of the natural system in the field of social production.
Purpose. The purpose of the article is to assess the environmental impact of agriculture on a regional dimension. Identification of the major problems in the region due to the use of natural potential and measures aimed at stabilizing and improving the environmental situation.
Results. The influence of agriculture on the environment in Vinnytsia region is investigated. The potential of the agrarian sector is analyzed, namely, the number of enterprises in the sector and by size, the acreage of agricultural crops, and the indices of agricultural production. It has been determined that agro-industrial production is one of the most significant environmental factors. The main indicators of fertilizer use, waste generation and management, and pollutant emissions are analyzed. The most important problems of the region, which are caused by the use of natural potential, are identified. It is determined that the stabilization and improvement of the ecological situation in the region will be facilitated by: implementation of a set of measures to ensure the effective exploitation of economic entities and environmental objects while strictly adhering to environmental legislation; implementation of a set of measures for putting into operation objects that are being built or designed in agriculture; implementation of programs for implementation of high-efficiency wastewater treatment systems, efficient atmospheric emissions treatment systems, utilization of industrial and household waste, etc .; increase of environmental measures financing; raising the level of environmental safety in the country; solving the problems associated with the need to restore the natural resource potential of each region in accordance with the losses caused by the consumption of natural resources.
Conclusions. Agro-industrial production is one of the most significant environmental factors. Its sustainable development depends on the effective utilization of the natural resource potential involved in the production, as well as compliance with the requirements of rational use of nature and preservation of environmental components of the environment. According to the results of the research, the most important problems of the region, which are caused by the use of natural potential, are identified, and measures aimed at stabilizing and improving the ecological situation.
