Perspectives for The Development of Polish-Ukrainian Economic Relations
Abstract. Introduction. Poland is one of Ukraine’s most important trade and economic partners, and their relations continue to develop despite the challenges posed by war and global economic crises. However, political and economic instability, global market fluctuations, trade restrictions and sectoral competition have created obstacles to cooperation. The purpose of the article is a comprehensive study of economic relations between Ukraine and Poland, in particular, development prospects and strategic directions of interaction between the two countries. Development of strategic recommendations for improvement of economic cooperation, determination of priority directions of joint development. Today, Polish-Ukrainian cooperation covers various areas, including trade, investment, transport logistics, energy and innovative technologies, as well as coordination of economic policies within the framework of European integration. Over the past decades, economic relations between Poland and Ukraine have undergone significant changes, evolving from historical trade partnerships to modern strategic cooperation. Currently, trade turnover between the two countries, as a key element of cooperation, continues to grow, driven by their favorable geographic location. The article examines the volume and direction of investment, as well as the impact of military action in Ukraine on the Polish economy, unemployment and inflation.
Results. The study also highlights economic changes in Ukraine, in particular the dynamics of key macroeconomic indicators and the investment climate. The study identifies challenges to deeper economic cooperation, including regulatory barriers, logistical constraints and geopolitical risks. Addressing these issues is essential for developing effective strategies to strengthen economic ties that will facilitate trade growth, attract investment, and promote economic development in both countries. Another crucial factor influencing economic relations is labor migration, which on the one hand contributes to the Polish economy and on the other hand requires policies to integrate Ukrainian professionals into strategic sectors of the domestic economy.
Conclusions. The key factors determining the future of Polish-Ukrainian economic relations include Ukraine’s deeper integration into the European economic space, increasing trade volumes, and the activation of infrastructure projects, particularly in transport corridors and customs simplifications.
