Structural Changes in the Economy of Ukraine
Abstract. Introduction. The world’s space is based on the principle of differentiation on the basis of economic development. The basis for determining the level of economic development is the balance of sectors’ shares of the national economy in the overall structure of GDP. At present, the theory of a three-sectoral economic model is the most practical and consists of agrarian (raw), industrial and postindustrial (service sector) sectors. The relation between the resulting types of economic activity determines the position of states and their economic sufficiency at the global level. Ensuring economic development of countries in general and of Ukraine, in particular, requires qualitative changes in the structure of the economy with the change in the priorities of functioning by types of economic activity in favor of the tertiary sector (service sector).
Purpose. The purpose of the article is to study and analyze qualitative changes in the structure of Ukraine’s economy, based on indicators and experience of economically developed countries of the world.
Results. The Ukrainian economy has positive characteristics of qualitative changes, given the increase in the share of the tertiary sector in the structure of the gross domestic product on the basis of recent years. The increase of economic results in the context of the services sector is due to the development of wholesale and retail trade. The reduction of agricultural output is positive, but the negative effect is a reduction in the results of the industrial production sector.
Conclusions. Qualitative changes and transformations in the Ukrainian economy have positive characteristics but are a long way off from the practice of economically developed countries. The benchmark for a domestic economy is the value of the primary sector at the level of 2% and tertiary – 70-80%. The strategic task for our state is to overcome the traditional positioning as “agrarian” and the departure from the practice of selling to the foreign markets of the raw material base.
