The Role of Agricultural Innovations in the Development of Modern Ukrainian Agribusiness
Abstract. Introduction. The article analyzes the main trends and prospects for innovative development of the agricultural sector in the context of modern economic challenges and global transformations. Special attention is paid to the impact of innovative technologies on ensuring sustainable economic growth, increasing the efficiency of agricultural production, and adapting the agricultural sector to climate change.
Purpose. The purpose of this study is to explore the role of agricultural innovations in shaping modern Ukrainian agribusiness and to determine their impact on increasing productivity, competitiveness and sustainable development. Special attention is paid to the analysis of innovative technologies, digitalization, automation of production processes and their contribution to the modernization of the agro-industrial complex. The study also examines the prospects for implementing advanced solutions to adapt the agricultural sector to global challenges, including climate change, food security needs, and regional economic stability.
Results. The results of the analysis confirm that the innovative development of the Ukrainian agricultural sector plays a crucial role in ensuring its competitiveness and stability in the face of modern global challenges. Innovations contribute to increasing the productivity of agricultural enterprises, optimizing the use of resources, and reducing environmental impacts. In particular, technological modernization improves the efficient use of land and water resources, which is particularly important for regions with arid climates, such as Odesa. The implementation of precision farming, digital agricultural management platforms and modern irrigation methods significantly improves yields and minimizes production losses. The analysis of economic indicators has demonstrated the stable development of the agricultural sector, which is reflected in its growing share in Ukraine’s GDP, which currently stands at about 10%, as well as in the increasing volume of agricultural exports, which account for more than 40% of the country’s total exports. Investments in agricultural modernization will increase by 15% in 2023, confirming the sector’s high investment attractiveness. Government programs such as “Affordable Loans 5-7-9%” and subsidies for the modernization of agricultural machinery are accelerating technological innovation, which has a positive impact on business productivity. The socio-economic aspect of innovations is also an important factor in the development of the agro-industrial complex. The introduction of innovative technologies in agriculture promotes the creation of jobs, especially in related industries such as agricultural logistics, wine-making, agro-tourism and food processing. The example of Odesa, a regional leader in implementing innovative solutions, illustrates a 15% increase in agricultural employment over the past three years. In addition, growing investments in regional agro-clusters and educational initiatives are improving the skills of the workforce and facilitating the adoption of advanced agricultural practices. The results indicate that agricultural innovation is a key driver of sustainable economic growth and Ukraine’s international competitiveness. Further transformation of the agro-industrial complex requires consistent implementation of government strategies to support innovation, promote digitalization, expand export opportunities, and environmentally modernize agricultural production. In the long term, these measures will strengthen Ukraine’s position in the global food market, ensure sustainable regional development, and improve the well-being of the rural population.
Conclusions. The transformation of Ukraine’s agro-industrial complex requires a comprehensive approach that combines government support, investment attraction, and the implementation of innovative technologies. Strategic priorities for agricultural development should include technological modernization, digitalization of production, and financial incentives such as preferential loans and grant programs. Regional agricultural development should focus on the creation of agro-clusters, innovation centers, and training centers to promote advanced practices. These measures are expected to increase the agricultural sector’s share of GDP, boost exports by 20-30%, and improve labor productivity. As a result, agricultural innovation will become a driving force behind the competitiveness of Ukrainian agribusiness, facilitating its integration into global markets and ensuring the sustainable development of regions.
