Professional Bullying (Mobbing) as a Manifestation of Non-Compliance with Business Ethics
Abstract. Introduction. Professional ethics are an important component of effective company management in the modern labor market. They contribute to the formation of trust among all participants and ensure high standards of professional behavior. Many conflicts can arise in the workplace, one reason being an unprofessional attitude or even harassment of employees. Professional bullying, also known as mobbing, occurs when one or more individuals systematically create psychological or economic pressure, humiliate, or use physical violence against other employees.
Purpose. The purpose of the research is to reveal the essence of professional bullying (mobbing) as a manifestation of non-compliance with professional ethics.
Results. The article outlines the main causes of mobbing and presents various types of professional bullying at work, including authoritarian, biased, discriminatory, desensitizing, and sexual harassment, as well as selective mobbing. With the advent of digitalization, gadgets, online communication, and social networks, cyberbullying has also emerged. It reflects the interdependence of the various forms of mobbing, including verbal intimidation, bullying, discrimination, isolation, physical violence, and economic pressure. It lists legislative and regulatory documents that can help solve the problem of mobbing at work, which leads to moral and material damage to employees and companies. These documents include the Ukrainian Law “On the Principles of Preventing and Counteracting Discrimination in Ukraine,” the Ukrainian Code of Administrative Offenses, the Ukrainian Labor Code, and the Ukrainian Law “On Collective Agreements and Contracts.” The article notes the need to adopt a Code of Ethical Conduct, in which professional bullying would be considered an important management issue, with consequences for its participants.
Conclusions. Possible preventive measures to combat mobbing have been identified. The head of the enterprise can help train employees to manage their emotions and feelings. This training can develop their communication and empathy skills. The head of the enterprise can also take the necessary measures to stop this negative phenomenon in the workplace. This will help establish responsibility and build positive relationships in the team.
