Study of the Efficiency of International Freight Transportation of Ukraine under Martial Law
Abstract. Introduction. Amid the martial law in Ukraine, which was prompted by the russian military aggression, a variety of external and internal factors that impact the operation of the national transport system have intensified considerably.
Purpose. This article aims to evaluate the efficiency of international freight transportation and identify prospects for developing the Ukrainian transport services market. To achieve this goal, the following tasks were set: studying the volume of freight transportation by mode of transportation in Ukraine, analyzing the structure and volume of foreign trade, assessing the movement of vehicles across the country’s customs border, and comparing the efficiency of Ukraine’s transport system with that of European states.
Results. The study provided a general assessment of Ukraine’s transport complex’s freight transportation volumes in the context of international connections. The level of damage inflicted on Ukraine’s transport sector during hostilities was identified, revealing that transport infrastructure ranks second among economic sectors in terms of the degree of destruction. At the same time, recent trends reveal positive dynamics in the recovery of international freight flows. The structure of exports by commodity group was analyzed, as well as the dynamics of changes in total freight transportation volumes. The research revealed that international transportation is primarily carried out by road, maritime, and rail, with grain and ore shipments forming the largest share. Based on the research results, the main directions for developing freight transportation in Ukraine after hostilities end were determined. Additionally, the transport sector’s achievements within the framework of Ukraine’s integration into the European Union were outlined.
Conclusions. The results of the study show that restoring transport infrastructure is the primary priority for Ukraine’s development in order to increase freight transportation volume.
