Priorities of Foreign Economic Activity of Zaporizhzhia Region
Abstract. Introduction. This article presents a comprehensive study of the Zaporizhia region’s foreign economic activity (FEA) in the context of the national economic transformation, the impact of global crisis factors, and Ukraine’s pursuit of European integration. The purpose of the article is to reveal current trends in the development of foreign economic activity in the region, conduct a detailed analysis of its structural components, including the commodity and geographical diversification of exports and imports, and identify key international markets with which the region can develop stable trade relations.
Results. This article examines the relationship between the level of development of the Zaporizhia region’s industrial complex and its foreign economic activity. It provides a comparative assessment of the effectiveness of export-oriented industries, particularly metallurgy, mechanical engineering, and agro-industrial production. This assessment considers their role in achieving a positive trade balance and generating foreign exchange earnings. Institutional and infrastructural factors affecting the quality of foreign economic activity are also considered, including logistical capabilities, special economic zones, the investment climate, and the level of digitalization of trade processes. The article identifies barriers that hinder the development of foreign economic activity, including instability in foreign policy, limited access to international financial resources, and the insufficient adaptability of small and medium-sized businesses to the requirements of the global market.
Conclusions. Based on the study’s results, the following strategic directions for modernizing foreign economic activity in the Zaporizhia region have been formulated: intensifying integration processes with the EU; developing export infrastructure; stimulating enterprises’ innovative activity; expanding participation in international exhibitions and forums; and introducing state support mechanisms for export-oriented manufacturers.
These recommendations are important for local governments, regional development agencies, chambers of commerce and industry, and businesses seeking to strengthen their position in international markets amid global economic instability.
