Developing a Model for the Growth of Small Businesses in the Food Industry During the Post-war Recovery Period
Abstract. Introduction. This study examines the conditions that shape the development of small enterprises in Ukraine’s food industry during the postwar recovery period. This sector faces several challenges, including damaged infrastructure, disrupted supply chains, workforce shortages, and changing consumer preferences. Given the strategic role of small producers in ensuring food security and supporting regional economies, it is crucial to identify effective development mechanisms.
Purpose. This research aims to develop a comprehensive model for the post-war development of small food industry enterprises that considers regional disparities, structural challenges, and the need to adapt to European integration trends.
Results. The analysis revealed uneven regional recovery dynamics and identified key obstacles hindering small producers. A multi-component development model was proposed that incorporates inclusive, cluster-based, cooperative, diversification-oriented, digital, export-oriented, and green approaches. The findings emphasize the importance of financial support, institutional simplification, innovation adoption, and improved managerial competencies as essential conditions for recovery.
Conclusions. The sustainable development of small food industry enterprises in the post-war period is only achievable through the coordinated efforts of government institutions, businesses, and local communities. Implementing the proposed model will reinforce food system stability, support regional revitalization, and facilitate integration into the European market.
