The role of Digitalization in the Development of Production Activities of Agricultural Enterprises
Abstract. Introduction. The transition of agricultural enterprises to digital technologies has changed the nature of their business. Electronic document management, ERP and CRM systems, big data analytics, artificial intelligence and digital planning affect document approval, order processing, inventory movement, customer invoicing and management reporting. Digital transformation differs from simple automation in its goals and scope: it involves a substantial increase in efficiency, the use of advanced technologies and the simultaneous coverage of several business areas.
Purpose. The purpose of this article is to study the role of digitalization in the development of production activities of agricultural enterprises at the current stage of changing business conditions, and to substantiate a reproducible model for assessing the efficiency of such digitalization.
Methods. The study uses methods of theoretical generalization, systematization, comparative and index analysis, normalization of partial indices relative to a benchmark value, and an integral (weighted) assessment method, applied to a case study of a farm enterprise in Lviv oblast
Results. It is established that the efficiency of digitalization of production processes of agricultural enterprises is a category reflecting the degree of achievement of production and enterprise development goals through the introduction of digital technologies. A model for managing the efficiency of digitalization of the production process is proposed, allowing management decisions to be made based on an integrated efficiency assessment (IE) that combines social, technological, production and managerial partial indices. The decision criterion is clarified: a digitalization project is accepted when NPV > 0 and IE ≥ 1. Based on the proposed model, an investment project for the digitalization of a farm’s production process was developed and tested; the calculated integral index equals 1.50, exceeding the benchmark value of leading farms in the region.
Conclusions. The digitalization of business processes of agricultural enterprises is a strategic transformation of their activities based on modern IT solutions. The proposed integral model, with a unified and internally consistent interpretation of the IE criterion, provides a reproducible tool for managerial decision-making on digitalization projects in the agricultural sector.
